podcast no 32 - the boy/girl podcast

Play podcast no 32 (right-click then save as to download to your computer or mp3 player).

This podcast is all about duos, bands comprising a boy and a girl. They are:

bloodWIRE - Relinquish (Nemo mix). bloodWIRE are I-Li Chang and Shawn Brice from California. I played 2 of their songs on podcast no 7. This version of Relinquish is from the Multipass ep that I-Li and shawn sent me, containing special remixes of some of their songs for the Nemo Festival in Boston in October 2005. If you liked this, try their album Transformation.

Scottish brother and sister Steven Finnie and Jolene Crawford are Finniston. The second song in today's podcast is Listen To Your Mother from their album Popular Music That Will Live Forever. Finniston are founder members of the Wendy House collective, and the fifth song played, It Angers Me So is from Welcome To The Wendy House.

I played You (Always On My Mind) by Brackenridge in the now-deleted podcast no 1. Brackenridge were (they no longer exist as a unit) Shelley Brackenridge and Bill Matthews. I also played the version of this song by Evangeline, another Bill Matthews band, in podcast no 8, but as soon as I did that I got the news that Evangeline had ceased to be!

The Bads are from New Zealand. They are Dianne Swann and Brett Andrews. For a while they played in various bands in the UK and Dianne even performed with Radiohead. Earth From Space is the title track of their album, which is well worth getting: listen to Bit By Bit, which I played in podcast no 23.

For that "like I said" moment, the last song on the podcast is Interference by Electrum. A classic! Electrum used to be mysterious, electrumboy and electrumgirl, but they have since revealed themselves to be Caireen Harrison and Jamie Thompson. They say they used to be in Slow Loris and Angulus, but that you won't have heard of either.

So that's it, 6 songs for you. I talked over soundbed music by Williamson, Green Eyes and Map. I'm not quite happy with the sound of my bits - something changed when I put the computer set up back together after last week's furniture shifting. Let me know what you think.

The opening and closing music was written and performed by Tragic Shellsuit Disaster.
