podcast no 34 - cross-infection

This is a podcast about connections. I satrted off with a fantastic infectious groove, Infection Groove by The Invisible Republic - who as far as I know are not connected to anything else on the podcast. This band are not keen to tell us much about themselves. I know they are from the UK, I believe Scotland but could be wrong.

A connection is something that happens when you change trains, say at Oxford Circus. The Metro by Sleepthief is the second song I've played from the excellent Dawnseeker cd (buy it here), the vocals this time by Jerry Eckert. Last time I played a Sleepthief song it was Just say it with vocals by Kyoko Baertson.

Kyoko Baertson and Walter Hilhorst are Lunascape. They contacted me after podcast no 26 and kindly gave me permission to play Mindstalking. I need to get the new Lunascape cd Reminiscence, so if anyone reading this is wondering what to get me for Christmas ...

The last two songs are by English artists who do a lot of their work abroad, collaborating with various excellent musicians. Both Tim Bowness and Jan Linton have worked with Richard Barbieri, formerly keyboards man with Japan. Tim Bowness works in New York, and sings with No-Man. He also performs excellent mellow ambient songs such as Another World.

I was thrilled to exchange e-mails this week with Jan Linton who is based in Tokyo. Even more thrilled to be given permission to play Lose Yourself With Me, which features Bill Nelson on guitars. And Jan has just told me Tim Bowness has written lyrics for a couple of his new songs. You can buy Jan's music here and here.

Bill Nelson was in 70's band Be Bop Deluxe, whose song Electrical Language gave its name to this podcast, and provides the 2 lines used in audio bumpers in the podcast, "sometimes you hear me when our frequencies meet" and "turn up the rhythm and you'll pick up the beat".

Soundbed music in this podcast is by The Midnight Foundation, Williamson and Torchomatic.

As always, thanks to Dave Kenny aka Tragic Shellsuit Disaster who wrote and performed the title music. There'll be more from TSD in a few weeks' time.
