podcast no 74 - we play both kinds

Play - 30:00 mins (click button)

This week's podcast concentrates on 2 important musical genres - Country and Western (although that becomes more evident in the second half):

William Brooks - After the Flood

Described as a folk rocker from Oklahoma, William Brooks has a number of excellent albums available via magnatune.com. After the Flood is from his 2004 album, Karma Dogs.

Dee Dozier - Beautiful Lies

My myspace friend Yoli suggested I check out Dee Dozier's music. Dee has some excellent songs available on her page, well worth a further listen. If you know of any artists I should be
playing, do what Yoli did, and let me know.

The Wyrd Sisters - The Angels Tell Her

An all female band, with a flexible membership. International critics have recognized the original sound The Wyrd Sisters have created with a fusion of folk/jazz/pop/blues as being a uniquely Canadian sound which sets the standard for up and coming singer/songwriters. Buy their music via their myspace page.

Tahmias Hilltot - Florence

Probably Denmark's best contry band, Tahmias Hilltot is led by the anagrammatical Matthias Lilholt. The band has just issued an ep, but if you are not in Denmark you probably need to contact them via their myspace to get it.

Laurie Jones Band - Raining In The Highlands and Overrated

Laurie sent me Raining In The Highlands by accident, but what a happy accident. A few e-mails later and she sent me Overrated, and this podcast was built around those 2 songs. Here we have music to line dance to, from a band of indie rockers from Portland Maine. You can buy their album at CD Baby.

Soundbed music used in today's podcast was Issues And Subscriptions by Map. The signature tune is by Tragic Shell Suit Disaster.

This is what Tahmias Hilltot say on their myspace blog, after mentioning their play on my podcast:

By the way, if you would like to order our EP, feel free to contact us here on myspace or use tahmias@hotmail.com , if you'd rather mail. It costs 50 DKr. and whatever is equal to that :-) Just write, then we'll find out. It contains 5 great songs: Florence, i am from the harbour, today it's pouring, i'm surprised & girls.
