podcast no 71 - 1800 seconds of obscurity

Play - 30:00 mins (click button)

Download (right-click on button)

The title was inspired by the title of an album that I heard on The World's "Global Hit" world music podcast, 12 seconds of obscurity. That title referred to the time between sweeps of the beam of a particular lighthouse. 1800 seconds is the length of an episode of the electrical language podcast. The music may be unsigned, but there is nothing obscure about:

Robert Poss - You Were Relentless

Relentless drums and guitars by this "guitar genius and drone-meister" from New York. What an excellent, if noisy way to get the podcast under way. Robert is known for his work with Band of Susans, and you can read about his work on his informative website. Robert e-mailed me the track from Austria, where he has been featuring in the Donaufestival with Throbbing Gristle.

Future Music -
11:11 and Composite

Future Music are Rob Barsky and Rich Arbaugh from Pennsylvania, US. Their friend Chris Simko provided the "Arnie" voiceover that you hear later in the show.

Buy their music on CD Baby

And do look at this excellent video of 11:11, by Matt Porter.

The excellent Id Guinness -
Negative

The real groover from Vancouver! Regular listeners may have noticed that I like Id Guinness a lot. There seems to be a strong Roxy Music influence in this song, or that's what I think. Negative is another track from Id's eagerly awaited album The Cure For The Common Crush. The album is due out soon, but you can pre-order it here and the album will be shipped to you on the day of release (I've ordered my copy!). In the meantime, individual tracks will be e-mailed to you as they ready. Or you can buy individual tracks.

In Darklight -
Colours and Greenhouse

In Darklight are drom my neck of the woods, Hampshire in the UK. If you get a chance, please see them, supportthis local band. Their gig list can be checked via the link above to their myspace page, where their music can be purchased.

Many thanks to Linda Mills for the time check and to Chris Simko for the other voice contribution.

Today's soundbed music was White Hotel by Torchomatic, and the signature tune is by Tragic Shell Suit Disaster.

"Stories waiting to be heard" is a line from the first song in today's podcast, and I thought it would make a good title. Whether it has any relevance ... well, perhaps.

Anyway, today's great music is from 4 continents:

  • The Kryptics, Wales/Australia- Tumble Dryer
    • video of The Kryptics performing Tumble Dryer

  • Udora, from Brazil- The Beautiful Game

  • Lowstar (again) - Connected

Soundbed music for today's podcast is by Kosmika. The title music is by Tragic Shell Suit Disaster.
