podcast no 87 - skylines

Play - 20:59 mins (click button)

Download (right-click on button)

In the 3rd of the podcasts recorded earlier for release while I take a 3 week summer break from podcasting, I review the album Skylines by North Atlantic Explorers.

North Atlantic Explorers are captained by Vancouver B.C.’s Glenn D’Cruze who stepped out from behind the drum kit to navigate his own ship. Glenn played with Vancouver bands who released albums on Mint Records and Nettwerk Productions and performed in thirteen countries, including South-By-Southwest in Austin, Texas and Denmark’s Roskilde Festival with legends like Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, Uncle Tupelo, and Sonic Youth.

Skylines is the debut record from North Atlantic Explorers on Anniedale Records. It’s a beautiful, engaging, and sonically stimulating record flavoured with strings, horns, loops, samples, vibes, xylophones, banjo, upright bass and vintage organs and pianos, with Glenn handling the songwriting and much of the instrumentation including lead vocals, guitars, drums, and piano.

The 3 songs played are:
  • Sweetheart
  • Springtime
  • When My Ship Comes In
Links:
The title music is by Tragic Shell Suit Disaster.
