This podcast features music by bands from San Francisco, and I have to thank Chris and Ben from The Bay Bridged for their help, so do check out their excellent podcast
The Lonelyhearts - Complicated Men
Andre Perry and John Lindenbaum play songs that are simple and melodic, but with layered instrumentation and harmonies. Complicated Men is a great opener to the podcast.
Matt Lutz - It Took Me a Time
Matt has taken time out from fronting another SF band The Herms to record a solo album with influences drawn from all over. Here is a great catchy pop song.
The Ian Fays - Empty Alcohol Bottle
Three sisters, two of them identical twins, and one long suffering guy behind the drum kit. Caroline says this sounds like Bjork..
Man Miracle - Orange Blossom
In the podcast I said this band was called Bear on Bear and that I could find nothing about them. Christian from The Bay Bridged has since left a comment (see comments below) that the band is now called Man Miracle. It's a great song, so head over to their myspace and tell them!
And many apologies to Man Miracle - this is so embarrassing.
Tempo No Tempo - Static
"...blended from the heavily farmed growing regions of Thunderbirds are Now!, Gang of Four, and Q and Not U. Yeah, it's dance-post-punk all over again, but you know you still crave it." --Pitchfork Media.
Finest Dearest - Making A Sound 2
FD say: We were 5 people who just wanted to play music and somehow, through the midnight haze, found each other. When you're interested in playing music, you are always sort of looking around, hoping the right person will come along and things will start happening--someone mentions their friend who just moved back from LA, you hear about this girl who can sing, that guy who plays cello, and you just make it happen because you want to and because you have to..
This week's soundbed music is Issues And Subscriptions by Map. The title music is by Tragic Shell Suit Disaster.
