is it art?
No, it's a railway sleeper used to prevent vehicles going onto this bridlepath. The charring was probably caused by vandals trying to set fire to it.

Looking back
Looking back to where the previous shot was taken from. These 2 photos were taken with a "new" camera, a pocket size Minolta X21. 2MP, bought cheaply on ebay.
